11 December 2020 – With the aim of valuing, safeguarding and promoting local gastronomy and regional endogenous products, Coimbra Region, European Region of Gastronomy 2021 is preparing its Traditional Gastronomy Book.

Led by the Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region, in partnership with the Municipalities that compose it and the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Coimbra, this initiative is intended to unveil and celebrate the secrets of local traditional knowledge and flavours, from a historical, ethnographic and social point of view.

A genuine and unique culinary collection, including recipes that have been transmitted orally through generations, the Traditional Gastronomy Book of Coimbra Region will be launched at the beginning of 2021 as a source of inspiration for new interpretations of the traditional gastronomy.

In the Region of Coimbra, gastronomy is not only interpreted as culinary art, but also as an important area of knowledge, a key element with the potential to aggregate local dynamics.

Under the motto A Million Food Stories, Coimbra Region is about to kick-start its programme as European Region of Gastronomy 2021, a challenge aimed to integrate the immense wealth of resources and endogenous products of the region to elaborate a meaningful offer of events and experiences related to local gastronomy, hospitality, culture and tourism.

The Traditional Gastronomy Book of Coimbra Region is a project co-financed under the Regional Center 2020 Programme.
